Live virtual applied training for engineers and technical reviewers

Two live camera-on sessions via Zoom · Maximum 12 participants
December 14, 2026

Optional Isolation Review Clinic - time for open discussion on course material and follow-up questions
$1,195 CAD + applicable taxes
Includes course materials, virtual instruction, and an optional Isolation Review Clinic.
A technically plausible isolation plan is only the start. Engineers and technical reviewers must judge whether the evidence, boundaries and execution arrangements support the decision before people are exposed.
This applied course develops a repeatable review approach: challenge assumptions, identify missing evidence and document the basis for proceeding, returning, declining or escalating a submission.
Designed for engineers, technical reviewers and engineering leaders involved in alternative isolation reviews, certification and operational decision-making.
Define the engineer’s role, governing requirements and review boundaries. Work through alternative isolations, isolation types, hazardous energy paths, the certification window and the meaning of a signature.
Challenge justification, zero-energy verification, scope of work, monitoring effectiveness and contingency feasibility before exposure occurs.
Connect valve mechanics to isolation integrity: floating and trunnion ball valves, gate valve sealing behaviour, other valve types, unique isolation arrangements, and proving limitations.
Assess information and decision quality. Identify missing process and hazard evidence, define a complete submission and document the rationale, conditions and limitations of the review.
Examine why plans fail in practice. Test administrative controls, human factors, monitoring and response arrangements against the people, equipment and conditions that will actually be present.
Bring the review model together through case discussion, common failure traps and an integration exercise. Practice explaining a defensible decision and the evidence that supports it.
November 30 & December 7, 2026, 8:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. MST. Live via Zoom with camera-on discussions and facilitated case exercises, and a maximum of 12 participants so every reviewer can contribute.
The second live session includes the main applied case exercise. Work through the evidence, execution assumptions and review documentation, then compare the judgement behind the decisions. After the course, you may optionally apply the framework to a case from your own practice.
Submit follow-up questions for 30 days after the course. The optional virtual Isolation Review Clinic takes place on December 14, 2026, 9:30–10:30 a.m. MST, to address common questions and reinforce application of the review methodology.
Use a participant workbook, reusable review tools, a standardized case package and review templates to carry the learning into your next submission.
Keep post-course access to the course materials and references, along with the repeatable review model developed during the two live sessions.
Receive a certificate of attendance and a professional development record. Note that the programme develops applied review judgement; it does not confer authority to approve a specific isolation.
Erin Schuler, P.L.(Eng.), MBA, PMP
Principal Engineer · North Point Engineering and Consulting Inc.
Erin brings engineering, operations and process-safety experience to isolation reviews and operational decision-making. North Point supports upstream and midstream work in Alberta, connecting technical review with the realities of field execution.
The course draws on that practical perspective: evaluate the evidence, test the execution assumptions and explain the judgement behind the decision.
